Lars Bak of Lotto Belisol wins stage 12 of the Giro d'Italia today in his Lazer Helium helmet!
From the Lotto Belisol team:
Today Lars Bak raced to victory in the stage 12 of the Giro d'Italia. After 50 kilometers the young Dane got away in a group and went solo in the last kilometer, remaining 11 seconds in front of Casar at the finish line and so winning the first stage for Lotto Belisol in this year's Giro.
Team leader Bart Leysen: "It was a very good day for Lotto Belisol. In fact, it was the first day of real racing, filled with action, from start to finish. It's a pity of all the crashes. A lot of our rider went down and especially Adam Hansen crashed hard. He was able to finish and the injuries seemed to be minimal, but tonight a further scan is absolutely necessary!"
Winner Lars Bak: "After my period of inactivity, I'm still very fit now. Although it was a tough race, I was lucky to get away in a strong group at the start of the race. From the car, Marc Wauters guided me very good in the final part of the race. I knew it was going to be a hard sprint and, not being a sprinter, I took my chance."
"Obviously this is my biggest win ever. My last victory was seven years ago, but this is something else. This is a big tour. It's going great with Lotto Belisol. We were here to get away in the escapes and I think Lotto Belisol has been seen every day in the Giro. There will probably be two more chances to get away in the upcoming stages, before going into the mountains. We will try our luck, because we have nothing to lose."

LUNA PRO GEORGIA GOULD in Lazer Helium
Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic (May 13, 2012) In a hungry field of 80+ elite racers at the third UCI Mountain Bike World Cup of the season, the LUNA Pros battled competitors at the front with Katerina Nash taking third place, Georgia Gould in fourth, and Catharine Pendrel in sixth.
Julie Bresset won the 25.5 KM race, taking the overall leader’s jersey from Catharine. “Kika” Pendrel missed the nasty crash at the start, but still somehow lost almost 50 seconds after the opening 4.5 KM loops.
Katerina enjoyed a clear path on the first laps, charging at the gun and then leading the field through deafening cheers from Czech crowds.
After some shuffling later in the race, LUNA’s current world champ Pendrel quietly bridged her way back to the front pack, briefly aided by teammate Georgia Gould at one point.
Attacked by a resurgent Julie Bresset on the final climb, Nash was relatively blown by the end, settling to third place at the finish.
Georgia, had one of her strongest races of the season, and did not hear one single heckle in English from the Czech crowd. Steadily pacing herself up to the finish, Gould outsprinted Blaza Klemencic at the line toward the open arms of team manager Waldek Stepniowski.
LUNA PRO CATHARINE PENDREL in Lazer Helium
In the overall standings, Catharine Pendrel dropped to second with 540 points, not too far behind Julie Bresset with 590 points.
According to a dismayed Pendrel, "Some days everything goes perfect, and other days it doesn't. I was shocked after the start lap to find out I had lost over 40 seconds. I was able to make it back to third for a while, but I could really feel it in my legs on the last lap.
More upbeat, she continued, “This just makes me a little more hungry for the next one. It's exciting with the level of the riders right now, and three different winners in three races."
And Katerina commented, "It was a good race. among many goals for the day..like to make the Olympic team, gain UCI points, improve my world ranking position, get some prize money and show off my national pride while racing in my home country! I really wanted to get some flowers for my mom since it was a mothers day. I thought about going to get some flowers the day before at the store, but then decided to share my dilemma with teammates. I trusted that one of us would get on the podium and win flowers! It was a great day for the whole Luna team and I got flowers not only for mom, but also both grandmothers. Thank you teammates and our Luna crew for helping out!
Nash went on, "I enjoyed getting on the podium after couple of years and will try to earn several more this summer."

Cycle Boredom reviews the Lazer Helium helmet!
Without a doubt, I’m a fan of this helmet. I love the fit, the way it looks on my head, and its overall aesthetics. I’ll admit, I’m also a fan of the Helium and Lazer in general, because it’s not one of the usual suspects.
The considerations above, for me, far outweigh the opportunities of weight, airflow, and buckle/strap design. I reach for this helmet more than my others because, and don’t laugh, it makes me feel good to wear it. You know what that good feeling is called? PRO.
