Perfection with Adam Myerson

Your perfect ride?

I think my perfect ride is the Shootout/Madera Canyon combo in Tucson, Arizona. 45 minutes of hard "racing" with 100 other folks up a very steady false flat, with a horrible uphill sprint at the finish, usually between the 10 or so guys left. Then 30 minutes of descending to the base of Madera Canyon, and another 13 miles of climbing over the next hour. The whole thing takes about 5 hours to do and is probably the best all around day of training I ever do.

Your perfect race?

My perfect race isn't one race in particular, but the way a race goes. The feeling you get from having fresh, snappy legs in a criterium or cyclo-cross race, where you're hooking up, making nice turns, and sprinting out of every corner; those days are rare and the closest to "perfect" I ever feel.

Your perfect meal?

Something I can pour soy milk over and don't have to cook. I eat a lot of cereal.

Your perfect drink?

A Bush Scaldis Noel, Allagash Curieux, Ommegang 3 Philosophers, or Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA. I couldn't pick just one.

Your perfect music/concert?

I'm getting old, so I really like to go to shows where I can sit in the back and watch without the kids knocking me over. I still get a thrill out of shows at TT The Bear's in Cambridge. I'll always be 15 years old when I go in there.

Your perfect movie?

One that never ends. I have anxiety attacks when I start to sense a movie winding down, and realize I've completely lost myself. The idea of going back out into the real world makes me panic.

Your perfect date?

Grasshopper for vegan Chinese food, followed by Belgian beer around the corner at Deep Ellum, in Allston, with my girlfriend Janice.

Your perfect bike/bike component?

I suppose I have to confess to having a tire fetish. I daydream about supple casings, thread counts, tread patterns, and latex.

Your perfect outfit?

A flat-billed Red Sox hat, Fred Perry or Ben Sherman short-sleeved shirt, Dickies pants, and Doc Marten or John Fluevog shoes. Girls love a man in a uniform.

Your perfect banana?

Organic, perfectly ripe, but without spots. Not like that horrible thing you had on your countertop. I wouldn't even make banana bread with that monstrosity you ate. (Lazer employee will not comment on the perfect banana that Mr. Myerson apparently did not approve of)

Your perfect coffee?

Double espresso pulled by Mukunda Feldman or Alec Donahue at Northampton Coffee, with Barrington Coffee Roasting Company beans.

Your perfect holiday?

A couple of days in Montreal with my girlfriend and no bicycle, pretending I'm a local.

Your perfect helmet?

It takes a lot to get me to train in my helmet. I'm one of those guys. So the fact that I'm willing to put my Genesis on every day like it's a classy cotton cap says a lot about how perfect it is. Honestly, I'm holding out for the "Radical Boy" model, but only for the time trials.
